The onion dome of St. Gregory The Theologian Byzantine Catholic Church gleams in the August sun. Unfortunately the lights went out last December for this historic parish located in the Birdtown neighborhood of Lakewood.. 

St. Gregory is one of dozens of area churches which have closed in the last few years due to dwindling congregations, population changes, or church politics.  The closing of St Gregory is separate from the closing of other area Catholic churches - however both the Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches have faced the same issues and pressures.
